A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress has declared that Nigeria’s opposition parties are disorganised and unprepared for the 2027 general elections, arguing that the ruling party currently holds the political advantage ahead of the next national polls.

The APC chieftain, Tolu Bankole, made the remarks in Abuja, where he said internal crises, weak coordination and a lack of clear policy alternatives have left opposition parties struggling to present a credible challenge to the ruling party.

Bankole, who serves as the APC National Leader for Persons with Disabilities, said the opposition’s current condition reflects deeper structural problems within Nigeria’s political landscape.

According to him, the ruling APC has gained momentum through governance and political strategy, while opposition parties remain divided over leadership struggles and ideological direction.

“The facts are undeniable,” he said, adding that the opposition is “in complete disarray and existential crisis” as the country approaches the next election cycle, Opposition in disarray unprepared for 2027 polls.

APC Claims Advantage Ahead of 2027

Bankole’s remarks suggest that the ruling party believes it has consolidated enough political strength to maintain its dominance in the next electoral cycle.

He credited the administration of President Bola Tinubu with strengthening the ruling party’s political position through economic reforms, infrastructure development and efforts to address security challenges.

According to him, these initiatives have reinforced the APC’s appeal among voters and helped position the party as the most viable political force ahead of the next national elections, Opposition in disarray unprepared for 2027 polls.

Bankole further argued that the ruling party’s political strategy has outpaced that of the opposition.

“The APC has not merely outmanoeuvred the opposition,” he said, adding that the ruling party has “overwhelmed and defeated them on every front.”

Opposition Parties Reject Narrative

Opposition parties have rejected the claim that they are unprepared for the next election cycle.

Leaders of several opposition groups have argued that the political environment remains fluid and that alliances, coalitions and strategic repositioning are already underway ahead of 2027.

Some opposition figures have accused the ruling party of attempting to create an impression of dominance while suppressing dissenting voices.

Opposition leaders also insist that internal debates within political parties should not be mistaken for weakness but rather as part of the democratic process.

Political Realignments Ahead of 2027

Nigeria’s political landscape is already witnessing significant realignments as politicians position themselves for the next general elections.

Several opposition figures have shifted political alliances, while some parties are exploring coalition arrangements designed to challenge the ruling party’s influence.

For example, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has been exploring coalition strategies aimed at presenting a stronger opposition platform ahead of 2027.

Political analysts say such alliances could reshape Nigeria’s political map if opposition parties manage to coordinate effectively.

Similarly, prominent political figures such as former presidential candidates and influential lawmakers are already involved in discussions about possible alliances.

Observers say these negotiations could determine whether the opposition can mount a unified challenge in the next national election, Opposition in disarray unprepared for 2027 polls.

Rising Political Tensions

The debate over opposition preparedness comes at a time of growing political tension in the country.

Reports of attacks on opposition figures and accusations of political intimidation have heightened concerns about the evolving political climate ahead of the next election cycle.

Opposition parties including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and African Democratic Congress (ADC) have condemned such incidents and warned that they could undermine Nigeria’s democratic process.

However, the ruling APC has dismissed these accusations, insisting that internal disputes within opposition parties are responsible for many of the challenges they face,Opposition in disarray unprepared for 2027 polls.

The Road to 2027

Although the next general elections are still more than a year away, political activity is already intensifying across Nigeria.

Political parties are strengthening their internal structures, recruiting new members and testing alliances as they prepare for the next round of national polls.

Analysts say the coming months will likely see an increase in political rhetoric as parties attempt to define the narrative ahead of the campaign season.

For now, Bankole’s remarks underscore the confidence within the ruling APC that it remains politically dominant.

Whether the opposition can overcome internal divisions and build a credible alternative ahead of the 2027 elections remains one of the key questions shaping Nigeria’s political future.
