Police bust cult, robbery rings in Delta, recover arms as operatives of the Delta State Police Command dismantled suspected criminal networks across several communities in the state during coordinated intelligence-driven operations.

The command said the crackdown targeted cult groups and armed robbery syndicates operating in Warri, Ughelli and Sapele, leading to arrests and the recovery of firearms and ammunition.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer in Delta State, SP Bright Edafe, the raids were carried out by tactical units following credible intelligence about criminal activities in the affected areas.

The development highlights a renewed push by security authorities to disrupt violent gangs and restore public confidence in communities troubled by cult-related violence and armed robbery.

Intelligence-led raids expose criminal networks

Investigators say the operations were launched after police units gathered information suggesting that criminal gangs were regrouping to carry out robberies and violent attacks.

During one of the operations on February 26, 2026, members of the Commissioner of Police Special Assignment Team raided the Ekredjebor area of Ughelli, where they arrested a suspect identified as Oghenemaro Festus.

Police officers said a pump-action gun loaded with two live cartridges was recovered from the suspect during a search.

Investigators believe the suspect is connected to several house-to-house robbery incidents that had recently alarmed residents in the area.

This operation was part of the broader security action in which Police bust cult, robbery rings in Delta, recover arms, signaling intensified surveillance and tactical policing.

Motorcycle robbery syndicate disrupted

In another operation, police operatives moved against a robbery gang believed to be operating in Sapele, following complaints from residents about persistent attacks by motorcycle-riding criminals.

Security personnel conducted a targeted raid in the early hours of March 1, leading to the arrest of Prince Omanure, also known as “Anini,” aged 21, who was allegedly linked to the robbery ring.

The suspect was apprehended during a night operation designed to disrupt the activities of the gang.

Authorities say the arrest represents another breakthrough in the ongoing effort to dismantle criminal groups responsible for attacks in the community.

Once again, the development reinforces the headline: Police bust cult, robbery rings in Delta, recover arms.

Cult gathering foiled in Warri

In a separate intelligence-based operation, police operatives moved swiftly to stop a suspected cult gathering in Warri, which authorities believed could lead to violent attacks on residents.

The Quick Response Squad, acting on credible intelligence, raided a building on Okwagbe Street in the Igbudu area of Warri, where members of a notorious cult group were allegedly assembling.

The police said the gathering was intended to plan attacks within the city and surrounding communities.

By disrupting the meeting, authorities say they prevented what could have escalated into violent confrontations.

The operation formed part of the wider campaign in which Police bust cult, robbery rings in Delta, recover arms across several parts of the state.

Weapons recovered during the raids

During the coordinated security operations, police recovered three firearms and 27 rounds of live ammunition, according to the command.

Security analysts say the seizure of weapons is a critical element in reducing violent crime, as firearms often enable robberies, cult clashes and other criminal acts.

The recovery of weapons during the raids underscores the seriousness of the threat posed by the gangs.

Because of this development, Police bust cult, robbery rings in Delta, recover arms has become one of the most significant recent security successes in the state.

Police intensify crackdown on cult violence

Cultism has remained a persistent security challenge in several communities in Delta State and across the Niger Delta.

Police authorities say many of these groups operate clandestinely and sometimes become involved in violent clashes, robbery and other criminal activities.

Earlier operations in the state have also resulted in the arrest of suspected cultists and the recovery of firearms and other weapons.

Security agencies say intelligence gathering, community cooperation and sustained patrols remain crucial to tackling the problem.

Through the recent operations, Police bust cult, robbery rings in Delta, recover arms, demonstrating what authorities describe as a proactive approach to policing.

Residents welcome police intervention

Residents of affected communities have reportedly welcomed the police action, saying the arrests could help restore peace and reduce the fear of nighttime attacks.

Local leaders say the activities of cult groups and armed robbers had created tension in some neighbourhoods, with residents worried about their safety.

The crackdown, they say, sends a strong message that law enforcement agencies are determined to confront criminal networks.

Community members are also being encouraged to share information with security agencies to help identify criminal hideouts and prevent further attacks.

Continuing investigation

Police authorities say investigations are ongoing to identify other members of the criminal gangs who may still be at large.

Officers are also examining the weapons recovered during the operations to determine whether they were used in previous crimes.

Authorities say more arrests could follow as the investigation continues.

For now, the message from law enforcement remains clear: Police bust cult, robbery rings in Delta, recover arms and the security agencies intend to sustain the pressure on criminal groups operating in the state.
