The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Worldwide has called on President Bola Tinubu to establish a probe panel to investigate the Niger Delta Development Commission’s (NDDC) income and expenditures under the leadership of Managing Director Samuel Ogbuku.
In a statement by IYC spokesman Bedford Berefa, the council expressed concerns over the lack of transparency and accountability in the NDDC and criticized its handling of funds meant for regional development. Berefa emphasized the need for a thorough investigation to ensure proper use of funds.
Berefa highlighted the growing frustration among youth in the Niger Delta, who are demanding accountability and effective resource management. He stated:
“The Ijaw Youth Council’s call for action is a clear message to the government that the people of the Niger Delta will no longer tolerate mismanagement and inefficiency. We hope that with President Tinubu’s intervention, there will be a positive change in the NDDC’s operations and a better future for the region.”
Berefa also alleged that Samuel Ogbuku is involved in corruption and bribery cases, urging the presidency not to renew his tenure in September. The IYC advocates for appointing technocrats with proven leadership records to lead the commission, as specified in its establishing laws.
