The Lagos State Government has initiated an investigation into the tragic death of Dr. Vwaere Diaso, a Medical Officer undergoing housemanship at the Lagos State General Hospital, Odan. The young doctor passed away on Tuesday, August 1, 2023, due to a mechanical failure in an elevator at the hospital.
In response to this shocking incident, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Strategy, Olumide Sogunle, released a statement on Wednesday expressing the government’s condolences to the family of the deceased. The statement also informed the public that a thorough inquiry has begun, comprising officials from the Lagos State Ministry of Health, Lagos State Health Service Commission, Lagos State Safety Commission (LSSCOM), and certified Lift and Vertical Transportation Equipment experts.
The Lagos State Government assured the public that appropriate actions would be taken against anyone found to be negligent according to the findings of the inquiry. The investigation aims to determine the cause of the elevator malfunction and any potential lapses in safety measures.
