The Bauchi State Police Command disclosed the developments in a statement issued on Sunday, October 11, by its spokesperson, Superintendent of Police Nafiu Habib.
According to the statement, the Bauchi police acted on complaints from parents and guardians, leading to the arrest of four suspects aged between 20 and 55.
The suspects were identified as Musa Ibrahim, 50; Yakubu Musa, 20; Abdullahi Sule, 40; and John Madaki, 55.
Police said the victims had been taken to medical facilities for examination and treatment, while the cases had been referred for further investigation.
Bauchi Police Arrest Suspect Over Alleged Assault of 10-Year-Old
The first case was reported on October 9 by a resident of Gadar Maiwa village in Ningi Local Government Area.
According to the complainant, his 10-year-old daughter was allegedly sexually assaulted by a 50-year-old neighbour, Musa Ibrahim, also known as Musa Fawa.
Police alleged that the suspect deceived the child into following him to a guinea corn farm behind their houses, where the assault reportedly occurred.
Following the complaint, the child was taken to General Hospital, Ningi, for examination.
The police spokesperson said the medical examination confirmed sexual assault, adding that the suspect had been arrested and reportedly confessed to the offence.
The reported confession remains a police account and does not constitute a judicial finding of guilt,Bauchi police.
The incident has again drawn attention to the importance of protecting children from abuse, including threats arising within familiar neighbourhoods and communities.
Another Suspect Arrested Over Alleged Abuse in Azare
In a separate case, the Bauchi police arrested 20-year-old Yakubu Musa following allegations involving an 11-year-old girl in Azare, Katagum Local Government Area.
The complaint was lodged on October 9 by the girl’s father, who alleged that the suspect had taken his daughter into an empty classroom at Bakoshi Primary School, Azare.
Investigators said the alleged assaults occurred on separate occasions in September and October 2026.
The child was subsequently taken to General Hospital, Azare, for medical examination.
Habib disclosed that the suspect had been arrested and reportedly admitted involvement in the alleged offence.
The circumstances surrounding the reported incidents also raise questions about safeguarding arrangements in school environments, particularly access to classrooms and other facilities outside supervised activities.
However, the police statement did not indicate that school officials had been implicated in the alleged offence.
Bauchi Police Investigate Alleged Repeated Abuse in Shira
Another complaint received by the Bauchi police involved a 12-year-old girl from Dago village in Shira Local Government Area.
Her father reportedly approached the Yana Police Division on October 8, alleging that a 40-year-old man, Abdullahi Sule, had sexually assaulted his daughter.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect allegedly lured the child on approximately four occasions, giving her ₦500 each time.
Police said the girl had been rescued and taken for medical attention, while the suspect was arrested.
The allegation of repeated abuse underscores the need for timely reporting, sensitive investigation and measures to prevent further contact between suspected offenders and victims.
Child protection specialists generally emphasise that children who disclose sexual abuse require immediate safety, appropriate healthcare and psychological support.
The Bauchi police have not announced the completion of investigations into the case.
Fourth Suspect Held Over Alleged Assault of Vulnerable Woman
The fourth case involved allegations against John Madaki, 55, concerning a 20-year-old woman described by police as having an intellectual disability.
According to the police statement, the woman’s parents reported the incident on October 10.
They alleged that the suspect had lured their daughter with ₦1,000 before sexually assaulting her.
Madaki was subsequently arrested, while the woman was taken to the Police Clinic in Bauchi for medical examination.
The case highlights the particular safeguarding needs of persons with disabilities, including the importance of accessible reporting procedures, informed support and respectful treatment throughout criminal investigations.
Investigators will be expected to establish the circumstances of the alleged offence through admissible evidence and applicable legal procedures.

Police Commissioner Orders Further Investigation
Reacting to the four cases, the Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the reported incidents and ordered their immediate transfer to the State Criminal Investigation Department.
The directive is intended to facilitate further investigation and possible prosecution.
The command reaffirmed its zero-tolerance position on sexual and gender-based violence, particularly offences involving minors and vulnerable individuals.
The Bauchi police also urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to law enforcement authorities.
Although the command reported confessions in two of the cases, the allegations must still be established through the criminal justice process.
As of the police statement, no conviction had been announced in connection with the four arrests.
Protecting Victims Beyond Police Arrests
The latest Bauchi police arrests bring renewed attention to the wider responsibilities of families, schools, healthcare providers and law enforcement agencies in preventing sexual violence.
Reporting suspected abuse is an important first step. Equally important are access to medical treatment, confidential handling of evidence, psychological support and protection against intimidation or retaliation.
For child victims, investigations must prioritise their safety and welfare while ensuring that legal procedures protect their privacy.
Nigeria’s police authorities have previously announced measures to strengthen gender-based violence response desks at divisional police stations, with the aim of improving access to specialised assistance.
Effective implementation of such measures remains important for communities where victims may face barriers to reporting sexual offences.
The latest cases also demonstrate why a police arrest should be distinguished from a conviction. Suspects retain the right to a fair hearing, while complainants are entitled to appropriate protection and a thorough investigation.
For the Bauchi police, the immediate challenge is to ensure that the allegations are properly investigated, relevant evidence is preserved and appropriate legal action follows.
The outcome of the investigations will be important in determining whether the suspects are formally charged and how the cases proceed through the courts.
Meanwhile, the command has called on residents to cooperate with security agencies by reporting suspected sexual abuse and other threats to vulnerable persons without delay.
