Chelsea forward João Pedro will head into the 2026/27 Premier League season carrying impressive scoring form after finishing pre-season as the leading goalscorer among players from England’s top-flight clubs.

The Brazilian scored seven goals during Chelsea’s summer preparations, putting him two clear of Aston Villa youngster Brian Madjo and giving supporters another reason for optimism before competitive football begins.

While Joao Pedro pre-season goals provided Chelsea with one of the summer’s standout individual performances, Arsenal’s new signing Christos Tzolis made an equally impressive impact as a creator.

The Greek international recorded six assists, the highest total by any Premier League player during pre-season, according to statistics published by the Premier League.

Manchester City’s Antoine Semenyo finished behind Tzolis with five assists from four appearances, while Aston Villa midfielder Emiliano Buendía supplied four.

The numbers provide an intriguing snapshot of form ahead of the new campaign, although history offers the usual warning: pre-season excellence guarantees nothing once competitive football begins.

Joao Pedro Pre-Season Goals Reach Seven

João Pedro’s seven-goal return put him comfortably at the top of the scoring standings.

The Chelsea forward finished two goals ahead of Aston Villa’s Brian Madjo, who scored five.

Crystal Palace’s Matheus França and Nottingham Forest striker Igor Jesus followed with four goals each.

A sizeable group finished on three goals, including Bournemouth pair Evanilson and Justin Kluivert, Brentford’s Igor Thiago, Crystal Palace striker Eddie Nketiah and Everton forward Thierno Barry.

Leeds United duo Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Lukas Nmecha also scored three each, alongside Manchester United’s Bryan Mbeumo, Nottingham Forest’s Arnaud Kalimuendo, Sunderland midfielder Enzo Le Fée and Tottenham Hotspur striker Richarlison.

But none matched the seven Joao Pedro pre-season goals accumulated during Chelsea’s preparations.

For Chelsea, that is encouraging because Pedro is coming off a productive 2025/26 campaign in which he scored 15 Premier League goals.

His summer form suggests he has maintained his sharpness rather than requiring several competitive matches to rediscover his rhythm.

Two Goals Against Real Sociedad Cap Impressive Summer

João Pedro completed his pre-season in style.

Chelsea defeated Real Sociedad 3-1 at Stamford Bridge in their final friendly, with the Brazilian scoring twice.

After Morgan Rogers had opened the scoring and Jon Aramburu equalised for the Spanish visitors, João Pedro struck twice after half-time to put Chelsea firmly in control.

His first came from a header following a Reece James delivery before he added another with a finish from Malo Gusto’s pass.

Those strikes took the Joao Pedro pre-season goals total to seven and ensured the Brazilian finished the summer at the top of the Premier League player rankings.

It was the kind of performance managers want from their main attacking players immediately before the league campaign.

Pre-season matches may not carry points, but finishing chances remains a valuable habit.

Tzolis Makes Immediate Arsenal Impact

If João Pedro dominated the scoring chart, Christos Tzolis made his mark through creativity.

The 24-year-old Arsenal winger registered six assists during the summer after joining the Premier League champions from Club Brugge.

His performances suggest Arsenal may have found another potent attacking option following Leandro Trossard’s departure for Besiktas.

Tzolis arrived in North London after an exceptional final domestic campaign in Belgium.

According to the Premier League, he scored 17 goals and supplied 23 assists in the Belgian Pro League last season, an extraordinary 40 direct goal contributions in league competition.

His creative output has quickly followed him to Arsenal.

Tzolis supplied two assists during Arsenal’s Community Shield victory over Manchester City and was also credited with a Fantasy assist after winning a penalty against Borussia Dortmund.

Six assists across the summer put him one ahead of Manchester City’s Semenyo.

Arsenal May Have Found Trossard Successor

Tzolis’ performances are particularly interesting because of the role Arsenal expect him to fill.

The Greek international was signed after Trossard left the club, leaving Arsenal needing another player capable of operating from the left while contributing goals and assists.

Tzolis appears naturally suited to that task.

Although predominantly a right-footed left winger, he can operate centrally and has experience playing on the opposite flank.

His attacking production for Club Brugge was one of the major reasons Arsenal moved for him.

The Premier League’s analysis of the signing described him as a potential replacement for Trossard and highlighted his chance creation, ball carrying and versatility.

Six pre-season assists provide an encouraging early indication, but the more demanding examination begins when league football starts.

Semenyo and Buendia Among Top Creators

Tzolis was not the only player to enjoy a productive summer.

Manchester City’s Antoine Semenyo registered five assists from just four matches, making his return particularly impressive given his limited number of appearances.

Aston Villa’s Emiliano Buendía finished with four assists.

The figures underline how several Premier League attacking players have entered the new season in promising form.

Yet there is an important distinction between the assist figures and the Joao Pedro pre-season goals tally.

The Premier League notes that its pre-season assist calculations follow Fantasy Premier League rules, which can award assists in circumstances that differ from conventional statistical providers.

For example, winning a penalty that is subsequently converted can qualify as an FPL assist.

That explains why Tzolis received an assist for winning Arsenal’s penalty against Borussia Dortmund.

Top Premier League Pre-Season Scorers

The final leading goalscorers were:

João Pedro, Chelsea: 7 goals
Brian Madjo, Aston Villa: 5
Matheus França, Crystal Palace: 4
Igor Jesus, Nottingham Forest: 4

Players on three included Evanilson, Justin Kluivert, Igor Thiago, Eddie Nketiah, Thierno Barry, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Lukas Nmecha, Bryan Mbeumo, Arnaud Kalimuendo, Enzo Le Fée and Richarlison.

The seven Joao Pedro pre-season goals therefore gave the Chelsea striker a clear two-goal advantage over his closest challenger.

Tzolis Tops Pre-Season Assist Rankings

The leading creators were headed by:

Christos Tzolis, Arsenal: 6 assists
Antoine Semenyo, Manchester City: 5
Emiliano Buendía, Aston Villa: 4

Tzolis’ performance is perhaps even more noteworthy because he is a new arrival adjusting to Arsenal’s tactical demands and new teammates.

His immediate productivity will increase expectations surrounding his competitive debut.

Arsenal supporters will hope the connection between their attacking players becomes even stronger once the league campaign gets underway.

What João Pedro’s Form Means for Chelsea

Chelsea will be encouraged by more than the raw total of Joao Pedro pre-season goals.

A striker entering the season with confidence can transform an attack.

Pedro already possesses considerable Premier League experience following spells with Watford, Brighton & Hove Albion and Chelsea.

He is also more versatile than a conventional penalty-box striker.

The Brazilian can link play, move into deeper areas and combine with attacking midfielders before arriving in scoring positions.

That versatility gives Chelsea different ways of constructing attacks.

More importantly, he has demonstrated that he can finish them.

Seven goals during the summer will consequently increase expectations around his contribution in 2026/27.

Pre-Season Numbers Come With a Warning

For all the excitement surrounding Joao Pedro pre-season goals and Tzolis’ six assists, neither player has earned a single Premier League point with those statistics.

Pre-season football serves a different purpose.

Managers experiment with formations, players operate under varying fitness levels, substitutions are frequent and opposition quality can differ considerably.

Some clubs also face teams much further behind or ahead in their physical preparation.

Statistics from friendly matches therefore cannot be treated exactly like competitive numbers.

A player can dominate pre-season and struggle once the intensity of Premier League football returns.

Equally, a player with a quiet summer can become decisive once competitive matches begin.

That is why the figures are best understood as indicators of form rather than predictions of what will happen over 38 league matches.

Fantasy Premier League Managers Take Notice

The numbers will nevertheless attract considerable attention from Fantasy Premier League managers.

Pre-season is traditionally one of the main periods in which Fantasy players search for signs of emerging value.

A forward scoring regularly is difficult to ignore.

A new winger creating goals for the defending champions is equally interesting.

The Premier League itself highlighted João Pedro and Tzolis while assessing the players in strongest form ahead of the new campaign.

But Fantasy managers face the same question as football supporters: can summer performances survive the transition into competitive football?

Tzolis Returns to Premier League With Point to Prove

Tzolis also carries an interesting personal story into the season.

This is not his first experience of English football.

The Greek winger previously played for Norwich City, where his first Premier League spell failed to produce the impact expected of him.

His career subsequently recovered through spells elsewhere in Europe before he established himself as one of Belgium’s most productive attacking players with Club Brugge.

Arsenal have now brought him back to England as a considerably more experienced footballer.

His six-assist pre-season provides an ideal start, but competitive Premier League football will determine whether his development in Belgium has prepared him for sustained success in England.

João Pedro Sets Early Standard

Chelsea could hardly have asked for a better individual scoring performance from their forward during preparations.

Seven Joao Pedro pre-season goals put him above every other player representing a Premier League club.

Tzolis, meanwhile, has given Arsenal supporters their first glimpse of the creativity that produced extraordinary numbers in Belgium.

The statistics will disappear from immediate relevance once competitive football begins.

Goals scored in friendlies will not count towards the Golden Boot.

Pre-season assists will not decide the Premier League Playmaker award.

But form matters.

Confidence matters.

And for João Pedro and Christos Tzolis, the summer has provided plenty of both.

The seven Joao Pedro pre-season goals and six Tzolis assists have set an early benchmark.

Now comes the harder part: reproducing those numbers when Premier League points are actually on the line.
